hello, friends!
this week, i flew through central places, a sweet and compact novel by one of my fav journalists, delia cai. it’s a story about the meaning of home, and recontextualizing your past, and figuring out your identity. i recommend it if you’re in the mood for a pithy mix of heart and nostalgia. i also recommend paging through cai’s writing in vanity fair.
on wednesday, i went to see one of my fav comedians / podcasters, jacqueline novak, in the flesh at her chicago tour stop and it was as dreamy as i imagined it would be. something about the way her brain works feels extremely like the way my brain works. meticulously observant veering on obsessive, insistent on precision of language, deeply and sometimes distractingly introspective… i don’t know i just think we would be really good friends.
today is tu bishvat, the jewish day of gratitude for trees! if you feel called to partake, i invite you to take an extra moment to notice the plant life you encounter throughout the day. maybe do some research and learn about a species unique to your area. if it’s available to you, make a meal out of local seasonal produce, and savor each and every flavor.
