plant matter 2.27.23
hello hello!
i got into a bit of a slump last week where i kept starting books and then putting them down after the first few chapters (actually one i read like 300 pages of and then simply could not continue because the same things kept happening over and over and i realized i didn’t care). but then! i decided to take a chance on something outside my usual wheelhouse and wow did it pay off. have you guys read the marriage portrait by maggie o’farrell?? it was a reese pick last september so not exactly an under the radar title, but i never picked it up because historical fiction is not really my thing. oh my goodness what an exquisite reading experience. beyond o’farrell’s ~glinting~ prose, i think what hooked me so thoroughly was being in the head of our scrappy protagonist lucrezia, the 15 year old daughter of a grand duke in 1550s florence. i know i’m going to have to come back to this one because i miss her already.
the ‘sletter is especially bookish this week so let’s lean into it — tell me what you’re reading lately! comment below or hit reply :)
longtime plant matter fav nancy pappas is donating a portion of profits from her print sales this month to support communities affected by the earthquake in turkey and syria. i especially adore the colors in this one.
